Shelly Fryer Review
Shelly Fryer's blog is one every educator or future educator should visit. The work she does is truly outstanding. She is a 3rd and 4th grade teacher at Positive Tomorrow's, which is an Elementary school in Oklahoma that serves homeless children. She has fun activities for her students to create in her classroom such as radio podcasts, youtube videos, a flickr, and a classroom blog. Not only is she great in the classroom, She also presents at educational conferences to education other teachers as well.
Shelly believes it is very important for students to work with technology within their classroom. However, she stresses the importance of how teachers use technology within the classroom and their lessons. It is not enough for students to just play on apps that are educational. Students need to navigate and create within apps and show their own creativity and art. Shelly does an outstanding job in holding her students accountable for this type of learning. One of the apps I found most creative for students to use is seesaw. Seesaw is a place students can put all their creative work in one place. "Students can show what they know using photos, videos, drawings, text, PDFs, and links. You can also import directly from most popular apps." -Seesaw website. Check out the slideshow below to learn more about seesaw. |
IPADPALOOZATo the right is a youtube clip of Shelly and her husband Wes speaking in Austin, Texas at iPadpalooza. The one thing I love about what she first starts out speaking about is that her number one goal is for her students to love learning again. I feel as though a lot of teachers can lose side of that and simply teach by the curriculum and assessment scores. This video is all about digit sharing. How can teachers share their students work? Take a look at this video and you'll learn why.
